As the Woodbine Twines
by Irving Abram (1922-2015)

Tingle of nerve and blood, we say,
are a love song
And why not?
Why deny the miracle of molecule upon molecule
Stardust pounded and shaped eons ago
Flavored with happenstance
and baked with the sun's blessing?
Destiny is diversity
sifted and sorted for each quirk
that stayed afloat in the primordial murk
And spun out
spiraling twins that foretold
You and me
Entwined as the woodbine twines.
