David Iakovlevich Aizman (1869-1922) was an important Jewish writer in Russian, a friend of Maxim Gorky, who esteemed his works very highly. His novella, "The Krasovitsky Couple," was translated into English by Edgar H. Lehrman, and made into an opera by Leonard Lehrman in 1976. More recent scholarship by Maxim D. Shrayer, who translated Aizman's "Zemlyaki" ("Countrymen," Commentary, 115. 5 (June 2003): 30-40) and others will be featured on this page.
